Egyptian Theme Decor - Popular among Decorators

The ancient Egyptians did not consider death to be a dark fate and believed in an afterlife. In order to ensure wealthy persons' comfort in this afterlife, they buried their dead with all the furnishings they would need in life beyond the grave. King Tut’s tomb is the most intact burial tomb ever discovered and contains many rich specimens of these furnishings. Reproductions of these finding have become popular among decorators and designers today.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall.

Among the buried Egyptian treasures, were hand mirrors. Replicas of these handheld mirrors would make perfect gift items. Among the images found on them are:

Zodiac of Denderah-
This sculpture is a widely known relief taken from the ceiling chapel dedicated to Osiris in the temple at Dendera. The original dates back to 50 BC and can be found in Paris at the Louvre. The Zodiac of Denderah is believed to be the basis on which astronomy was later based on.

Isis-
Isis is a goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology. Her name means, “Queen of the Throne.” She was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. She was said to be friend and listener to all, rich and poor alike. She formed a union with her husband and brother, Osiris, Lord of the Dead.

Eye of Horus-
Isis bore a son with Osiris who was named Horus. He was the God of the Sky and is depicted as a falcon. The Eye of Horus is the recognizable ancient Egyptian symbol of protection and royal power over deities.
