German Beer Steins

Some collectibles are antiques – vintage items more that a hundred years old; others are less than antique, or maybe even new. One very popular collectible is the German beer stein which boasts interesting history dating back to the 14th century. The word stein is the English word for the German steindrug. Pewter, porcelain, earthenware, stoneware, glass or even silver are used to fashion these drinking vessels which are also usually fitted with hinged lids lifted by a thumb-lever. Many traditional German steins are ornately decorated with landmarks and scenes from German cities, others have intricate ornamentation, and still others graphically display old German drinking songs. The impressive workmanship that each of these items display makes for a beautifully eye-catching exhibit in the home, but even a single, carefully chosen stein placed on a side-table or on a shelf will draw the interest and attention of your guests and will greatly enhance your home decor.
